Brewster Boys Win League Title, Girls Finish Second
BREWSTER—The Brewster High indoor track team competed in the League 1-B championships last week. The boys finished first and edged out Lakeland/Panas by only 13 points, the girls finished second behind Lakeland/Panas.

PHOTO SUBMITTED Coach Joe Scelia was excited about his team’s performance. “We were slight underdogs,” said Scelia. “But all our guys really stepped up. We put guys in the right spots and everyone sacrificed for the good of the team.”
Shawn McDonnell finished first in the 300M at 37.5, Greg Hodge was third at 38.1, and Mike Thomas finished first in the 1000M at 2:44. McDonnell was third in the 600M at 1:26.5. Mauricio Madureira fin- ished third in the 55 meter hurdles at 9.6. The team of Greg Hodge, James Courte, McDonnell and Madureira finished first on the 4 X 400 relay in 3:41, and Justin Maguire was third in the 3200 (10:37) and the 1600 (4:58).

Courte finished first in the triple jump at 40’7.25, Jason DiNardo was second at 40’5.75 and Thomas was third at 39’3.75. DiNardo was first in the high jump at 6’0”, Madureira was third at 5’6”.
The girls came in second to a strong Lakeland/Panas squad.
“The girls put in a very solid effort,” said Scelia. “They all put up a fight and performed great. Especially Ariana Bottalico, she was incredible. The most points any one person can earn for their team is 30, she had 28 for us.”
Bottalico finished first in the 1500M at 5:14 and also notched first in the 3000M at 11:38, Michaela Spannaus came in third in the 3000M at 11:45. Bottalico came in second in the 1000M at 3:17, Nicole Zazzero was not far behind finishing third at 3:19. Miriam Munn, Jamie Maguire, Nicole and Michelle Zazzero finished second in the 4 X 800 relay at 10:49.

Ally Tschinkel finished first in the long jump at 15’10.5”, Sam Waruch was second at 29’5.25”. Tschinkel was second in the triple jump at 31’5.25, Natalie Poljak was third at 29’5.25.
The Bears will head back to the New York City Armory on Sunday to compete in the New Balance games.
