BREWSTER—The Brewster High wrestling team took eighth-place out of 18 teams at last Saturday’s Beacon tournament, won by John Jay of Cross River.

Mike Parisi of Brewster won the 96-pound weight class, going 3-0 at the tournament.

Dan Santiago (189), Jon Peragine (125) and Nick Ghelarducci (152) all placed third, and Jim Duncan (112) took a fourth at 112 pounds.

Considering we only took eight wrestlers, I think we did well,” Bears coach Tom Looby said. “To place in the top three at this tournament is an accomplishment – we had three guys do that, and one win… so I was happy. It’s a tough tournament.

“Parisi wrestled mistake-free and smart,” Looby added. “In the finals he shut out his opponent. Ghelarducci also wrestled a very good tournament, and Duncan wrestled well.”

Santiago picked up his 100th career win during the tournament. “He’s a four-year varsity wrestler, and he’s had an excellent season,” Looby said. “He has 29 pins and has been a strong asset for the team. It’s nice to see him get his 100th win.”

The Bears also dropped a 38-36 decision to Arlington last Tuesday on the road.

Peragine, Ricardo Lopez, Nick Grasso and Santiago all won via pin, and Liam Erickson, Duncan and Kyle McAlpin earned wins by decision.

Brester was set to host Hen Hud Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
