JFK/PV Hockey Gets Two League Wins
PUTNAM VALLEY—The John F. Kennedy Catholic/Putnam Valley high ice hockey team got two big league wins, defeating Mahopac on Sunday 1-0, and Friday beating Pawling 3-1.
JFK/PV has been missing players most of the year, mostly due to illnesses and injuries. This weekend they finally were back to full strength.
“It’s good to have everyone back,” said coach Steve Santini. “We have been missing guys but this is the time of year you want to be healthy.”
Sunday JFK/PV faced Mahopac and got an exciting 1-0 victory.
“For all the hockey lovers out there it was a great game,” said Santini. “It was fast paced and physical. Both defenses did well and both goalies played great. I told my guys after the second period that the team who wanted it more would win this one.”
Dylan Rooney showed how bad he wanted it when he scored the eventual game winner on a power play with about three minutes left in the game.
Steve Santini had the assist, Luke Martin stopped 25 shots for JFK/PV and Bobby Fatone had 24 saves for Mahopac.
On Friday JFK/PV went up against Pawling and won 3-1.
The game started off slow but got going in the second period.
“It was an up and down game,” said Santini. “But we played much better in the second and third periods.”
Rooney scored the games first goal and Chris Considine scored the second with less than a minute left in the second period. John Belluci scored a goal in the third period for Pawling to cut the score to 2-1.
“When they scored they changed the momentum,” said Santini. “But we were strong on defense and a late goal from Santini sealed the game.”
Martin had 22 saves for JFK/PV, Dennis Reynolds had 30 saves for Pawling.
“We have everyone back and we’re playing well,” said Santini. “Hopefully we can carry this momentum until the end of the season and beyond.”
This Friday JFK/PV will face Horace Greeley in a non league game. It will begin at 3:30 at the Brewster Ice Arena.
