PV Matmen Dominate Warriors

PUTNAM VALLEY—The Putnam Valley wrestling team traveled to Long Island on Saturday to compete in the Stony Brook Duals, where the Tigers went head to head with Lindenhurst, Albany Academy, The Stony Brook School and Hewlette. Last Wednesday the Tigers faced Lourdes in a league matchup, and rolled to a convincing 70-18 win.

“We came in beat up,” said Coach Will Carano. “We were also missing a few guys due to SAT’s, and the ride up was pretty hectic. So it was hard for us to get it going at first.”

Eventually they did get it going, and beat Stony Brook, 72-13, and Hewlette, 49-22, to finish the day at 2-2.

Dan O’Gorman went 4-0 on the day at 145. “Dan was simply dominant,” said Carano. “He pretty much beat up every guy he faced.”

Last Wednesday Putnam Valley was home facing Lourdes, and earned a lopsided win.

“We really came out strong,” said Carano. “I was impressed with how well we did.” The league win was not the only highlight for Put Valley, as O’Gorman notched his 100th win when he pinned Jacob Weigard one minute and 47 seconds into their match. “I’m very proud of Dan,” said Carano. “He works so hard, he deserves it.”

Mirabal at 96 pinned Vinny Testa in 4:18, at 125 Velichko earned a 12-3 decision over Evan Edwards, at 135 PV’s Cisco Reyes pinned Josh Mathews in 2:15, at 140 Ertis Muriqi of Put Valley pinned Tyler Windham in 58 seconds, Evan Kneuer at 160 also won by pin for the Tiger’s, beating Nick Soto in 1:09, Jerry Zimbaldi at 189 took only 17 seconds to pin Jerry Stanford of Lourdes, and Kris Castro at 215 pinned Brian Goodall of Lourdes in 1:09.

Tuesday Putnam Valley will host Lakeland/Panas in another league matchup, beginning at 4:30.
