PV Suffers Two Blowouts

MIKE HORTON
PUTNAM VALLEY—The Putnam Valley high boys basketball team lost at Peekskill on Friday, 70-40, and also fell last Tuesday at Hen Hud, 65-36.

“It was a tough week,” said coach Ralph Smith. “We played two very good teams.”

Peekskill is one of the best teams in the section this year, and the Red Devils put their skills on display in front of the home crowd Friday against Put Valley and cruised to a 30 point win.

“We tried keeping it close early,” said Smith. “But when they got rolling they were tough to stop.”

Brendan Schmelmer led the team with 19 points and added six rebounds in the loss. Anthony Tyndal and Jon Helm each added seven points. Shaine Carter led Peekskill in scoring with 13 points.

Tuesday Putnam Valley lost big to Hen Hud. “They’re a tough team,” said Smith. At halftime the Tigers were down 41-14.

Schmelmer led the team in scoring again with 13, Jon Warden added 10 and Tyndal had eight.

Thursday the Tigers will host their senior night at 6:15 against Clark Academy.
