Rams Compete at New Balance Games

DAN KRUZE
CARMEL—The Carmel High indoor track team headed up to the New Balance Games at the Armory on Saturday with a few relay teams, hoping to qualify for nationals. Competing on crowded tracks the Rams weren't able to get out in the open and run.

“We mainly went down there for the 4x800, we thought they'd get in the first heat, but they didn't,” said coach Eric Schwark. “They ended up in the second heat and they overloaded the heat, 25-30 teams on the line. Not really the best place to run.”

The girls 4x800 relay team finished 26th with a time of 10:00. Sophomores Sophie Maher, Annie Gould, and Shannon McSherry and junior Jenna Holt, came up fourteen seconds short of the time required to qualify for nationals.

Freshman Eric Holt, junior Dan Malinowski, and seniors BJ Tully and Dan Foley finished 53rd in the boys 4x800 relay for the Rams with a time of 8:53.

“We had Eric run lead off, he had a real nice race,” said Schwark. “Set himself up for a great time and then coming into the hand off he had the baton knocked out of his hand.”

The sprint medley relay team made up of seniors Bridget Comiskey, Brittany Watts, eighth grader Katherine Mc- Cormack and sophomore Jean Magnetti, finished 56th with a time of 4:47.83. Both Watts and McCormack beat their previous personal bests.

The Rams next meet is the County Championship on Sunday January 31, at the Amory.
