John F. Kennedy Catholic High School basketball players are wearing protective mouthpieces these days thanks to the generosity of a local dentist. A lifetime achievement award and a visit from the Rotary’s district governor highlighted a meeting of the Lake Mahopac Rotary.

What the Census May Show
In April we will all have to stand up and be counted. It is then that Uncle Sam will take an official count of his sons and daughters. The last census was taken mid-winter and the county was more or less deserted. The result in Putnam County showed a decrease in population. Only 12,500 was credited to us. Full Story

Woman Files Dog Complaint After Death of Her Pooch
Marianne Larsen felt helpless.
The Mahopac woman watched in horror as a large Rottweiler sank its teeth into the back of her 10-year-old poodle mix as she walked the dog in front of her Lake Baldwin home earlier this month. Full Story

All for a Pack of Cigarettes
A woman who reported being robbed in downtown Mahopac was herself arrested when police determined she fabricated the story in order to buy a pack of cigarettes. Full Story
Galef Promotes Ethics Reform
Assemblywoman Sandy Galef believes ethics reform legislation approved by her colleagues in Albany last week couldn’t have come at a better time.
“A growing number of unethical behaviors by members of the State Legislature prompted legislation to protect the public from the misuse of taxpayer dollars,” Galef told the Courier last Friday during an interview. Full Story
