Jeremy Schramek Passes Away at Age 33

ERIc GROSS

This week family and friends are mourning the passing of Jeremy Phillipp Schramek, who died last Thursday on Staten Island.

Schramek, the son of A. Gerald and Ann Schramek of Southeast, was 33 years old.

Schramek was born on October 7, 1976, at Putnam Hospital Center. He attended the Brewster schools and served as a volunteer with Covenant House in Staten Island.

In addition to his parents, Jeremy is survived by his brother, Michael, and sister, Kiersten, both of Brewster.

Dozens of friends, family members, elected and appointed officials, and associates paid their respects Sunday at a wake at the Beecher Funeral Home in Brewster.

A close family friend called the death “very tragic. My heart goes out to Gerry and Ann. A parent is never supposed to bury a child.”

Representatives of many organizations wished the family godspeed as they prayed for Jeremy when passing his closed casket. Members of the law enforcement community, emergency services, education field, judges, doctors, and colleagues mourned the loss.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations in Jeremy’s name be forwarded to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department Corps of Cadets or to the Putnam Hospital Center Foundation.

Tax-deductible checks can be sent this week to either the Cadets Corps at the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, Three County Center, Carmel, NY 10512 or to the PHC Foundation in care of Putnam Hospital Center, 670 Stoneleigh Avenue, Carmel, NY 10512.

Gerald Schramek said, “We hope that Jeremy’s short life will be remembered for many years to come by the good work provided by these two marvelous organizations.”
