Brewster Performs Well at Championships
BREWSTER—The Brewster high boys and girls track team competed in the Northern County Championships at the Armory in New York City on Sunday. The boys finished second behind Arlington and the girls came in seventh.
“I’m proud of our team,” said coach Joe Scelia. “They always seem to show up big in important meets.”
For the boys Jason DiNardo finished first in the high jump at 6’0”. Mauricio Madureira came in third at 5’6”. James Courte finished second in the triple jump at 41’2”, DiNardo was fourth at 40’5.25” and Mike Thomas was fifth at 40’75”. Thomas finished second in the long jump at 19’6.75”, Courte finished fourth at 19’.75” and Madureira finished sixth at 18’1.25. “Jason had another wonderful meet,” said Scelia.
“He is one of the best jumpers in the section. James and Mauricio were great too, James is a fierce competitor and Mauricio is only a sophomore and continues to improve.”
“Shawn McDonnell had a great meet as well,” said Scelia. “He competed with a lot of passion and emotion.”
McDonnell finished second in the 600M at 1:24.8 and third in the 300M 36.4. The Team of McDonnell, Madureira, Courte and Adam McIe finished second in the 4 x 400 relay at 3:42. McIe also took third in the 1600M at 4:41.
On the girls side Ally Tschinkel finished second in the long jump at 15’1” and sixth in the triple jump at 31’1.75”.
“Arianna Bottalico was incredible,” said Scelia. “She and Nicole Zazzero performed very well in the 1500 meters.”
