JFK/PV Hockey Wins Shootout over Brewster

MIKE HORTON
PUTNAM VALLEY—The John F. Kennedy Catholic/Putnam Valley high ice hockey team beat Brewster, 6-4, in a league game Sunday at the Brewster Ice Arena.

The win pulled JFK/PV into a twoway tie for second place in the league with Mahopac at 6-3-1, and Yorktown is not far behind at 6-4-1. JFK/PV was supposed to play Horace Greeley last Friday but the game was canceled and has not been rescheduled

Action came early and often for both teams on Sunday, Brewster started off the scoring with a goal two minutes into the first period. JFK/PV responded with a goal from Dylan Rooney to tie the game, and then another goal from Steve Santini, but Brewster added a goal before the end of the period to make it 2-2.

The second period was just as action packed, JFK/PV would add three goals to give themselves a 5-3 lead.

“The second period was big,” said coach Steve Santini. “We just got more shots off and created a lot of traffic.” In the third period Brewster was able to cut the lead down to 5-4, but a late empty net goal sealed their fate.

Dylan Rooney had a strong performance with two goals and one assist, Kevin Bruen and Mike Tierney also added goals for JFK/PV.

Santini and Connor Grogan each had

goal and an assist, Sam Loizeaux and Josh Loizeaux had assists as well. Luke Martin had 14 saves for JFK/PV and Heather Daley had 23 saves for Brewster.

JFK/PV will challenge the league’s top team, Lakeland/Panas, on Friday. The game will begin at 3:30 at the Brewster Ice Arena.
