MIKE HoRToN
PUTNAM VALLEY—The Putnam Valley high boys basketball team lost to Ossining 74-53 on Monday, and lost 69-61 on Saturday to Dover. Thursday Put Valley hosted Clark Academy and picked up a 54-42 win.

The Tigers lost another tough league game to Ossining on Saturday by 21 points. “They play aggressive defense,” said coach Ralph Smith. “On top of that we just couldn’t get enough stops. We tried the press, we tried different defenses but none of it worked. They are very talented.” For Ossining this game was never in doubt, by halftime they held a 37-21 lead over Put Valley.

Brandon Schmelmer had 15 points, Alex Basso had nine and Anthony Tyndal added eight points in the loss. Keon Irvin led Ossining in scoring with 20 points.

Saturday Put Valley lost to Dover in a much closer game. “All of our best players got into foul trouble early,” said coach Smith. “Four of our guys eventually fouled out. We tried to keep it close but the fouls hurt us in the end.” The Tigers played hard and kept the game in reach most of the way but simply could not get over the hump and eventually lost by only eight points.

Tyndal led the Tigers with 29 points, Schmelmer and Jon Helm each added 10 points and Jon Warden added six.

Thursday was senior night for the Tigers, they faced Clark Academy in front of the home crowd and got a convincing win. “It was a good win for the seniors,” said Smith. “We looked good. We started the game on an 8-0 run and never slowed down.” Tyndal, who is a senior, put on a show for the crowd recording a school record 18 assists to go with his six points.

Another senior Alex Basso had 12 points, Warden added nine points and six rebounds and Schmelmer had eight points. Mike Rufo had seven rebounds, Zach Maucieri had six points and Chris Ungania added a bucket to cap their senior night.

On Friday PV will compete in a league match-up at Croton at 6:45.
