Putnam Valley Girls Lose to Ossining, Byram Hills
PUTNAM VALLEY—The Putnam Valley high girls basketball team suffered two crushing losses in recent action, they lost a league game to Ossining 79-40 on Monday and Friday Byram Hills rolled to a 71-25 victory.
Whenever Put Valley enters a league game they know they are in for a challenge no matter who they play. Monday they played at Ossining who many people consider to be one of the best teams in the entire section. “Ossining is a great team,” said coach Kelly Thompson. “They will most likely be a number one seed in the playoffs.” Ossining came out on fire and hit 9-11 from three point range in the first half alone. “We knew who their shooters are,” said Thompson. “But they were hitting everything. The effort was there on defense but everything we tried was ineffective.” Ossining finished the game with 13 three pointers.
Dana Tatnell had 14 points and eight rebounds, Rachel Fitzgerald had 11 points and Ashley Marks had six points and eight rebounds. Alex Venuto had 29 points for Ossining, 21 of them came solely from three pointers.
Friday the Tigers traveled to Byram Hills and lost by 46 points. “We had a ridiculous amount of turnovers,” said Thompson. “We didn’t do anything well it was rough, we shot 9-47 from the field which won’t win many games.” Put Valley struggled on offense, they accumulated more turnovers, 38, than points. Carey Berry had 10 points to lead the Tigers in scoring.
Despite two big losses Put Valley still has a shot at the playoffs, all they need is one more win. They will get a chance clinch at Croton on Friday at 5 p.m.
