CARMEL—With a pair of weightclass champions and eight other Rams placing, the Carmel High wrestling team pinned down a second-place finish at the Super 16 Tournament Saturday at Yonkers High School.

Nick Rosalino of Carmel won a title at 103 pounds at the Super 16. SKIP PEARLMAN Nick Rosalino of Carmel won a title at 103 pounds at the Super 16. SKIP PEARLMAN Mahopac won the team title with 202.5 points, Carmel was next at 174, and Somers finished third with 146.5.

Senior team captain Kevin Davidson won a title at 140 pounds, and Nick Rosalino was also a winner at 103 pounds.

Davidson continued his torrid season, and stayed unbeaten with a 25-0 mark. Davidson pinned Euscebio Moronta of White Plains in 4:21 in the finals.

Rosalino, a junior, upped his season mark to 24-5 after notching an 8-0 major decision over Scott Longworth of Ardsley.

“Kevin seems to be getting stronger and stronger ,” Rams coach Bill Twardy said. “He’s peaking at the right time. And Nick is wrestling more controlled… he was over-aggressive early in the season. Now he’s wrestling with more controlled aggression, and I’m very proud of the way he’s wrestling.”

Tom Davidson (15-5) finished second at 112 pounds, losing to defending state champion Brian Realbuto of Somers in the finals.

Mykhaylo Panchishak took a third at 189 pounds, and upped his season mark to 22-5.

Rob Kirk (20-9) finished fourth at 125 pounds, Chris Pecora was fourth at 135, and Joe Caporale (119) and James Autieri (152) both finished fifth. Vince Pecora (145) and Doug Chiapperino (130) finished in sixth place.

Despite taking a second to Mahopac, Twardy liked what he saw from his team.

“With 18 schools there, I have to be happy with the way our guys performed,” he said. “Mahopac deserved to win it, they wrestled very well. Autieri is giving up 12 pounds at 152, and he wrestled very well, he lost to the eventual champ in the quarters. And Mykhaylo looked tough, and Tom Davidson also wrestled well. This was a good test for us prior to sectionals.”

Carmel also posted a 38-33 league victory over RCK last Wednesday at Ketcham.

The win left the Rams at 15-3 in dual meets.

Earning wins via pin were Rosalino (103), Kirk (125), Chiapperino (130) and Kevin Davidson (140). Taking decisions were AJ Alvarez (215), Chris Pecora (135), Caporale (119), and Igor Panchishak won by forfeit.

Carmel was set to wrestle Ossining for the league title on Tuesday (to late for inclusion in this edition), and the Rams host the Division 4 tournament this Saturday.
