Two of Carmel High School’s most outstanding student-athletes have signed letters of intent to participate in sports while studying at college in the fall.
Sarah McCormack, daughter of Nancy and William McCormack, will play softball at Cornell University while Marielle Campbell, daughter of Noel and Barton Campbell, will attend Marist College in Poughkeepsie to play Division 1 tennis.
At letter signings last week, CHS softball coaches Kerri O’Connor and Tom Burke both lauded their upcoming super star.
O’Connor called Sarah a “great leader and a very reliable player who can play any position.” Burke said it was a “pleasure” to coach McCormack: “Sarah is a great player who has the ability as well as the knowledge to achieve greatness.”

Marielle’s coach, Mike Coughlin, described his team captain as “our anchor. She is a high caliber person who will be hard to replace.”
Marielle is a U.S. Tennis Association Junior ranked player who has been recognized as All-League and All-Section since middle school.
Both girls are involved with a variety of activities around the CHS campus. Sarah serves as captain of the school’s varsity field hockey team as well as running track. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society while serving as a student mentor and senior class officer.
Marielle is also a member of the National Honor Society and while not on the tennis court performs with the CHS Symphony Orchestra as well as volunteering with the Girl Scouts.
