Camarda’s State Line project nears finish line
After four years of starts and stops, developer Paul Camarda’s “State Line” retail center, planned for Route 6, is nearing the finish line of a long series of approvals. On February 8, the Southeast Planning Board gave unanimous approval to a seven-acre subdivision on the 54-acre site, one that makes room for office pace. Full Story

Middle school takes home the gold in academic triathlon
Not all triathlons require physical ability. Mental alertness, creativity, and teamwork are also paramount to success.
A group of students enrolled at the George Fischer Middle School in Carmel found that out last week by bringing home the gold medal in an academic triathlon competition involving middle school children from nine schools throughout the Putnam- Westchester region. Full Story
Schools seek to save energy
Calling it a “win-win,” Carmel Superintendent of Schools Dr. James Ryan announced his district reaching a contract agreement on a $7.2 million energy-efficient project.
As a result of the agreement with the Honeywell Corporation the district hopes to reduce its use of energy by 31 percent by installing energy conservation measures district-wide. Full Story
NORTH SALEM
Governor proposes cutting back on school police officers
Gov. David Paterson’s proposed reassignment of New York’s 90 State Police School Resource Officers due to the state’s financial crisis is being met with opposition close to home.
One of the troopers participating in the program is Robert Libretti of the Somers barracks, who is assigned to the North Salem School District. Full Story
