Area Wrestlers Excel at Divisionals
Twenty-nine grapplers from Mahopac, Brewster, and Carmel advance to sectional championships
It was sectional qualifying week for area high school wrestling programs, as dozens of teams competed at four different sites in divisionals last Saturday— all hoping to advance to this weekend’s Section 1 Championships. Full Story
Mahopac Skaters Defeat Carmel, Fall to Pawling
The Mahopac High hockey team split two tough games last week, losing 5-0 to Pawling at Pawling Trinity on Saturday after defeating Carmel 5-1 at the Brewster Ice Arena on Friday night.
Both contests were Conference 1 games.
In the Pawling game, the opponent scored all of their goals in the first two periods, making it tough for the Indians to mount any kind of comeback. Full Story
Carmel Makes It Three Straight over Brewster
Rams also lose to Lakeland; Bears top Mahopac
CARMEL—The Carmel High girls basketball team ripped Panas, 67- 37, Monday at Carmel High, and the Rams also topped Brewster, 54-52, last Wednesday to sweep the season series from the Bears.
Brewster also dominated Mahopac, 72-26, Friday, and opened the week with a 54-23 win over Panas. Full Story
ROSE SELECTED SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE ATHLETE OF WEEK
Former Carmel High wrestling standout Mike Rose was named the Springfield College Athlete of the Week recently, after earning three wins over nationally ranked opponents at 125 pounds.
Rose, ranked No. 7 in his weight class in New England, got two wins Saturday at a tri-meet against Rhode Island College and Wesleyan, and earned the third win —by pin—Sunday in a win over TCNJ. Full Story
Rams Rebound After Disappointing Loss
CARMEL—The Carmel High hockey team split a pair of conference games this week, losing to Mahopac on Friday, before bouncing back against Kennedy/ Putnam Valley on Sunday. The Rams are now 10-8 this season, 6-7 against league opponents. On Sunday the Rams beat Kennedy 3-0, while senior Marc Glaviano picked up his first career shutout, finishing with 25 saves. Brewster Tops Carmel, Nips ’Pac in OT
Bears clinch league title with a 62-56 win over Indians
BREWSTER—The Brewster High boys basketball team earned a 62-56 overtime victory over Mahopac last Friday at Mahopac, two days after the Bears dropped Carmel, 51-39 at home.
The two wins left Brewster at 13-4 overall, and 7-2 in League 1-B. The win over Mahopac clinched the League 1-B title for Brewster. Mahopac fell to 5-11, and Carmel was at 9-7. Full Story
Gaels Beat Haldane, North Salem, Dover
...but Coach Frank Kelly not pleased with ‘lousy’ defense
SOMERS—Joe Smith had 15 points and Matt Schoen added 14 to lead the Kennedy Catholic High boys basketball team to a 74-64 victory over Dover in a league game Monday at Dover.
Kennedy also routed Haldane, 58-39, last Friday at home, and ripped North Salem, 79-59, two days earlier on the road. Full Story

PUTNAM VALLEY—The John F. Kennedy Catholic/Putnam Valley high ice hockey team had two league games this past weekend. They lost to Carmel 3-0 on Sunday and beat Lakeland/Panas 6-4 on Friday, both games were held at Brewster Ice Arena. Full Story

Mahopac Falls to Brewster in OT
The Mahopac High boys’ basketball team capped off a rough week with a tough 62-54 League C loss to Brewster in overtime on Saturday at home.
That loss was preceded by two losses earlier in the week. The Indians were defeated on the road by Walter Panas 65- 56 on Thursday and at home on Tuesday by Lakeland 77-60, both of which were also league games. Full Story
Putnam Valley Boys Lose to Croton
PUTNAM VALLEY- The Putnam Valley boys basketball team traveled to Croton on Friday for a league game, they lost 42-29. All season the Putnam Valley boys have played tough league opponents. Friday they had another tough league game, making it tougher was the fact it was senior night for Croton. Full Story
PV Girls Basketball Forfeits Last Two Games
PUTNAM VALLEY—The Putnam Valley high girls basketball team had two games remaining on their schedule, Croton last Friday and Hen Hud this Tuesday. Both games would have been league games, and one win would have clinched a playoff berth for the Tigers.
Unfortunately, the team decided to forfeit the rest of its season amid a scandal brewing amongst the team. Full Story
’Pac Girls Lose to Brewster, Panas, Lakeland
The Mahopac High girls basketball team endured another tough week last week, losing to Brewster on the road 72-26 on Friday, Walter Panas 48-43 at home on Wednesday and at Lakeland 53-32 on Monday.
In the game against Brewster, the Indians’ Brittany Craig, a junior forward and team captain, led the team with 11 points. Full Story

BREWSTER—The Brewster high track team brought a few of their distance runners to the Metropolitan Invitational at the NYC Armory last Wednesday to run the mile. Full Story
Harlem Magic-Masters to Square Off Against Mahopac Rotarians
“Stretch” Earle Bellows is a giant of a man standing six feet-seven inches yet the Mahopac Rotarian and Mahopac Board of Education trustee was dwarfed Monday by Curtis Johnson, the 7-foot 5-inch center for the Harlem Magic-Masters, who will be squaring off against the Mahopac Rotary on February 19 in a Rotary fundraiser at Mahopac High School.
