BREWSTER—Emily Tapio came through with what has become a typical effort for her – 29 points, eight assists, seven blocks and seven rebounds – and Vania Simpri also played strong with 13 points and 12 rebounds, to power the Brewster High girls basketball team to a 66-52 victory over Tappan Zee in the first round of the Class A playoff tournament Friday night at Brewster. Kennedy Advances to Next Round after Win
Kelly drops six threes to pace Gaels attack
SOMERS—The No. 8 seed Kennedy Catholic High boys basketball team came up with a 60-50 victory over No. 9 Eastchester in a Class A opening-round game last Friday in Somers.
Kennedy’s Frankie Kelly dropped six three-pointers on Eastchester for 18 points, Conor Donahue added 12 points, and Ryan Hickey had 10.
Sidono led Eastchester (13-6) with 23 points. Full Story
PV Loses First Playoff Game in School History
PUTNAM VALLEY—The Putnam Valley high boys basketball team lost a 56-35 decision to Pleasantville in the first round of the sectional playoffs on Friday at Pace University. It was the first playoff game in the school’s history for boys basketball.
It was a bittersweet moment for Put Valley; the Tigers were obviously excited about making it to the playoffs. Full Story
’Pac Falls to Poughkeepsie in Playoff Opener, 48-78
The Mahopac High boys basketball team’s season ended Saturday in the first round of the Section 1 Class AA playoffs with a 78-48 loss to Poughkeepsie on the road. Full Story
Bears Keep Playoff Hopes Alive
BREWSTER—Heading into the weekend, the Brewster High hockey team knew it needed to win two of its last three games to qualify for the playoffs. After Friday’s disheartening 4-3 loss to Mahopac, the Bears’ season was on the verge of ending, and with the pressure on, sophomore Mark Bentson carried the Bears, scoring four goals and assisting on another, in a 6-3 win at Pawling. CARMEL—The Carmel High girls basketball team took the first step toward reaching the County Center last Saturday, blitzing RCK, 69-41, in a Class AA first-round playoff game at Carmel High School. Full Story
Mahopac Ends Season with Loss to Yorktown
The Mahopac High girls basketball team ended its season with a 37-27 loss to Yorktown on the road last week.
Junior Caitlin Hynes led Mahopac (0-18) with ten points, five rebounds and four assists. Junior forward and co-captain Brittany Craig had 12 rebounds.
Despite the loss, coach Jerry Fioretti was happy with how his team played. Full Story
Patriots End Rams’ Season
CARMEL—It was a difficult game, with an unenviable reward when the Carmel High boys basketball team, seeded No. 16, took on No. 17 John Jay EF last Friday in a Class AA outbracket playoff game.
The winner earned the right to take on top seed New Rochelle one day later. Full Story
Kennedy Gaels Continue Run
SOMERS—Sunday’s Section 1 Class B Championship meet was business as usual for the Kennedy Catholic winter track team. Once again both the girls and boys turned in strong performances, with the girls taking fifth overall with 38 points and the boys finishing sixth with 34 points. Full Story
Mahopac Hockey Wins Two to Close Out Regular Season
MAHOPAC—The Mahopac High ice hockey team concluded its regular season with two Conference 1 victories last week.
The Indians defeated Yorktown 4-3 in over time Sunday night at the Brewster Ice Arena. That win followed another victory by the same score over Brewster at the ice arena on Friday night. Full Story

It’s Presidents’ Day, at this writing, and we’re better than halfway though the month, with Putnam County and the rest of the Hudson Valley still under a cover of snow and ice, with more coming tonight. With his senior year winding down, Carr was diagnosed with mono, and it looked like he would be forced to sit out the sectional championships, preventing him from qualifying for the state championships.
