Elisabeth Hill Bates

Elisabeth Hill Bates, a longtime resident of Yonkers, and a Brewster, resident since 2004, died on Wednesday February 17, 2010, at Somers Manor Nursing Home. She was 99.

Born on August 23, 1910, in Cold Spring, she was the daughter of the late John and Elisabeth (Hardecker) Hill.

Mrs. Bates was a Parishioner of Christ the King Church in Yonkers, where she sewed bandages for cancer patients, and a member of the Third Degree Order of St. Francis at Sacred Heart Church in Yonkers. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, George E. Bates, Sr., in 1978.

Survivors include her children George E. Bates, Jr., William J. Bates, Elisabeth A. Tomlian, Margaret R. Bates, and Loeloa M. Specht. Fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren also survive. One sister, Margaret McKeever, and a brother John H. Hill, Jr. pre-deceased her. A Mass of Christian burial took place at Our Lady of Loretto Church in Cold Spring, on February 20, 2010. Interment followed in Cold Spring Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Clinton Funeral Home.
