Mahopac Bows Out after Close Loss to White Plains
MAHOPAC—The Mahopac High ice hockey team’s strong season came to a disappointing close last Tuesday night after a 1-0 loss to White Plains at the Brewster Ice Arena in the quarter finals of the Section 1 playoffs.
The game’s lone goal was scored with about 25 seconds left in the game.
Despite the loss, Mahopac coach Steve Tuite was happy with how his team played, pointing out that they had to play more of a defensive game.
“We played really well. We went to a defensive style. Our guys did a good job of defending in our own zone” he said, adding that White Plains had 42 shots on goal compared to Mahopac’s nine.
The Indians had a chance to tie the game but missed on a good shot.
Despite allowing the game’s lone goal with only a few seconds left, he was proud of the fact that his team did not give up and continued to fight.
“I was very happy with how the guys played that night,” Tuite commented.
The fact that the game was close concerned the White Plains coaches, who knew that Mahopac (10-9-3) could be a dangerous team.
“They were panicking a little bit. They did not want the game to be close like that,” Tuite said. He thinks that his team should take that as a compliment, since it came from the coach of a team that went to the section finals last season.
When asked if there were any individual performances that stood out to him, Tuite credited Mahopac’s entire defense for having a strong game.
“Overall, I thought it was a good team effort,” he said.
