Washington Lemmings

Dear Editor:

It is obvious that many people in congress are totally ignoring polls and local elections that reflect the diminishing popularity of, and trust in the federal government. Last week’s 7- hour, “bipartisan,” “health care” summit did little to change our views. Nothing was agreed upon, except that the word, “agreed” was over-used by each party to placate and patronize the other. It was a dog and pony show where, in the end, most of the fiscally responsible comments by Republicans, like tort reform, were completely brushed aside by “moderator” Obama. Let’s not forget: Obamacare and back room deals were all forged behind locked doors with zero Republican input. One ironic moment had the president chiding Eric Cantor for having a copy of the 2,400-page Senate bill on the summit table. The president called it “a prop.” Surely the president had to realize that the document looks as absolutely ludicrous as it is!

The fact remains: This bill has little to do with health and more to do with redistribution of wealth and the democratic power grab of 1/6 of our economy. The American people are quite aware of the horrific consequences of the passage of this legislation; thus we have the Tea Party Movement and various poll numbers revealing 25% of the public wants the bill dropped; 48% want it scrapped and started over; and 75% of the people are not in favor of it at all. The people do not want big government controlling every aspect of our lives.

Those in Congress are not listening. They are not representing their constituents. Democrats seem willing to commit political suicide by perpetrating the destruction of our world class health care system. Here in New York, no matter how many times one attempts to contact Senators Schumer and Gillibrand and Congressman Hall, only computer generated propaganda is the response. I even received a response about Cap and Trade from Senator Gillibrand when I had written to her about health care concerns.

The Democratic lemmings, political careers at risk, are threatening to use the nuclear option of reconciliation in the Senate vote to pass Obamacare. The very people (Reid/Pelosi/Obama) who want this done can be heard on older sound bites demeaning this legislative manipulation when the Republicans had the majority under President Bush. President Obama is willing to sacrifice so many seats in both houses that he has his party-mates walking the plank, similar to what Obamacare would do to the American people.

The ironic saving grace for our country might just be the fact that the president saw fit to insert federal funding for abortion into his own bill, consequently infuriating those who are pro-life. Polls show that 72 percent of Americans, including many Democratic lawmakers, oppose government coverage for abortion. Hopefully, numerous defiant Democrats will vote nay, and this may be the final death panel for the unconstitutional miscarriage of justice that is Obamacare!
