ALBANY—Wrestlers from all over New York State descended on the Times Union Center in Albany last weekend for the NY state wrestling championships, all dreaming of going home with a state title.

Gaels’ Title Run Ended by Top-Seeded Irvington
SOMERS – The No. 4 John F. Kennedy Catholic High girls basketball team dropped a 57-42 decision to No. 1 Irvington in the Section 1 Class B semifinal Sunday at the Westchester County Center.
Kennedy closes the season at 17-4, after winning just four games a year ago. Irvington (18-1) was to face No. 2 Nanuet Tuesday night in the Class B final. Full Story

PUTNAM VALLEY—The Putnam Valley high girls basketball team had a rough season, it started when the Tigers found out their new league alignments matched them up with Peekskill, Ossining, Hen Hud and Croton. That’s a tough league for anybody, especially a team that lacks size down low and had to replace more than half of its scoring from the year before. Full Story

CARMEL—It’s been quite a while since a Carmel football team posted a perfect regular season by the Rams turned the trick for coach Todd Cayea last week, completing the picture with a neat 23-7 domination of RCK to close at 7-0. Full Story
Carmel Skaters Fall to Mamaroneck in Playoffs
CARMEL—Despite another great goaltending performance from senior Marc Glaviano, the Carmel High hockey team came up short in the second round of the Division I playoffs. The seventh-seeded Rams (11-10) lost 4-0 to the number two seed Mamaroneck( 18-4).
Playing at Hommocks on Tuesday, the Rams came out ready to play and didn't let the heavy odds against them intimidate them. Full Story
Mahopac Bows Out after Close Loss to White Plains
MAHOPAC—The Mahopac High ice hockey team’s strong season came to a disappointing close last Tuesday night after a 1-0 loss to White Plains at the Brewster Ice Arena in the quarter finals of the Section 1 playoffs.
The game’s lone goal was scored with about 25 seconds left in the game. Full Story
Brewster Swimmers Perform Well at State Championships
BREWSTER—The Brewster High boys swim team closed out its season by sending senior John Carr and sophomore Charlie Carr to the state finals. The two competed in three events over the final weekend in February at Erie Community College in Buffalo.

Yorktown Upsets JFK/PV in Second Round
PUTNAM VALLEY—The John F. Kennedy Catholic/Putnam Valley high ice hockey team earned the second seed in the sectional tournament and had a first round bye before facing the seventh seed Yorktown last Wednesday and losing, 5-3. Despite the seeding, coach Steve Santini did not view the loss as an upset. Full Story
Alex Vanasse TKO’s Opponent in the NY Golden Gloves, Loses Next Round
Alex Vanasse, fighting for the John Carlo Boxing Center at the Patterson Recreation center, scored a 2nd round TKO over Alexis Ayala at the American Legion in Brooklyn, N.Y. Alex then advanced to the quarter finals of the 201 lb Novice division but lost in a split decision 3-2. Full Story
