Brewster’s McDonnell, DiNardo Excel at State Championships

BREWSTER—The Brewster High School track and field team had two athletes compete in the New York State Indoor Track and Field Championships at Cornell University on Saturday. Shawn McDonnell participated in the 600M relay and Jason DiNardo in the high jump.

PHOTO SUBMITTED McDonnell ran with an intersectional team that included Justin Decker (Arlington), Geraldo Cetoute (Spring Valley) and Jorge Garcia (Lakeland/Panas). The team finished second overall and earned a silver state and federation medal. McDonnell ran a 600-meter relay split of 1:24.8.

In the high jump DiNardo finished 13th overall, as his jump of 6’2” matched his best effort this season. DiNardo came close to clearing 6’4”, which would have put him on the podium.

“Shawn and Jason both did wonderful at states,” said Bears coach Joe Scelia. “It was a great experience and they will remember this for the rest of their lives.”
