CARMEL HIGH SCHOOL’S STUDENT OF THE MONTH

Arienne Dzubak

Arienne Dzubak is involved in a little bit of everything at Carmel High School. Named Student of the month, Dzubak helped to form the American Sign Language Club at the high school. “People have gotten really involved,” said Dzubak, “it’s a great way to learn something new and give appreciation to a culture that’s often shunned.”

Dzubak is excelling at her studies as well. She is taking four Advanced Placement and honors courses this year. She particularly enjoys her honors English course, and considers writing “a kind of side-hobby.” She enjoys a spirited debate as well, “I love debating and trying to prove your point as the correct one,” said Dzubak, “although I’m not sure I’m the best at it.”

What Dzubak is best at is science. “There are so many avenues you can go down,” said Dzubak, “and it’s not just one career. Science answers questions that human have had since prehistoric times.”

And Dzubak knows one thing many of her peers don’t: she knows exactly what she wants to do in life. “I desperately want to be a veterinarian for exotic zoo life,” said Dzubak, “I’m applying to Cornell, which has a program, I want to help sick animals become better.”

The epiphany occurred to her a few years ago. “I looked around my house and saw that I lived on a mini-farm. I started looking: what careers and what jobs there were involving animals? I’ve always loved the zoo.”

Dzubak credits her mother, Dawn, for pushing her to be her best. “She has phenomenal ideas for what my bothers and I can do, she’s a very motivational person.” She says the same of her step-father, Steve: “He has this very optimistic air about him.” One that has shines through Arienne today.

Her plan for the rest of her time at Carmel High school is simple: “Getting more fun experiences, and continuing with clubs I’m involved in,” said Dzubak.
