JV Mall Thieves

Five residents of Putnam County are due to answer larceny charges following their arrests at the Jefferson Valley Mall.

Yorktown Police made the apprehensions last week after mall security held the suspects for officers following the alleged shoplifting incidents.

An 18-year-old Carmel boy was arrested outside of Sears for allegedly taking a pair of sunglasses valued at $28.

Police charged Sunita Rani, 39, of Mahopac, when, according to Lt. Richard Malan, the woman reportedly took $25 worth of assorted items from Sears without stopping at the cash register.

Two young men from Lake Peekskill were also arrested. Cory Wheeler, 23, and his 18-year-old accomplice were accused of entering a fenced in area at Euro Bungy and allegedly removing a cash box and speaker from an unlocked cabinet.

Razia Azizi, 35, of Mahopac, was also arrested after she reportedly removed an area rug from Sears valued at $30 and exited the store without paying.

Each of those arrested was released without bail pending hearings next month in Yorktown Town Court.
