Mahopac Drug Busts

Residents of Kent and Mahopac face hearings in Carmel Town Court next month following their arrests on drug related charges in Mahopac.

Carmel Police were sent to a deli on Route 6 in Mahopac last week at 12:10pm for a report of two people fighting in the street. Officer James Terrazas received information that prior to the his arrival the two men left in a gray sports utility vehicle which the officer located headed southbound on Route 6 towards Baldwin Place a short time later.

Police Chief Michael Johnson said Sgt. Michael Nagel, who was assisting at the traffic stop, noticed a hypodermic syringe lying on the floor of the SUV. A passenger, Dennis Sica, 31, of Kent, admitted to police the needle was his, and Sica was arrested for criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument.

Sica was arraigned by Carmel Judge Thomas Jacobellis and was remanded to the Putnam Correctional Facility on $250 bail pending a hearing April 6.

Later that day Officer Terrazas was dispatched to the area of West Drive in Mahopac for a report of a vehicle being driven with its headlights turned off. Chief Johnson said the officer observed a man sitting in his car with the motor running without the headlamps illuminated.

Officer Brian Shay responded to assist and while looking inside the vehicle, the two officers reportedly found a quantity of marijuana on a book. Ivan Marrero, 20, of Mahopac, was arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana. He was released without bail pending next month’s hearing before Judge Jacobellis.
