Suspended Licenses

The number of motorists operating vehicles with suspended licenses and registrations is alarming. Police have made numerous arrests in recent days for aggravated unlicensed operation during a variety of traffic stops.

Putnam County Sheriff’s Deputy Randel Hill charged Michael Esposito, 46, of Putnam Valley, after his car was stopped on Peekskill Hollow Road in Putnam Valley at 12:45am.

The following morning Deputy Hill stopped a car on Route 6 in Southeast at 1:50am and arrested its driver, Nicholas Tiffany, 21, of Orlando, Fla., for aggravated unlicensed operation since his driving privilege to operate a vehicle in New York had been revoked.

Carmel Police made several arrests as well.

Officer Kevin Murphy charged Ivan Marrero, 20, of Mahopac, with operating a vehicle with a suspended registration and operating a car without insurance after the officer came upon a vehicle stuck in a rut along the shoulder of Route 6 in Mahopac at 10:30pm.

Officer Neil Brown arrested Christopher Sucarato, 44, of Mahopac, on charges of aggravated unlicensed operation and operating a vehicle with a suspended registration as well as operating an uninsured vehicle when his police cruiser’s automated license plate reader advised that a passing vehicle was in violation of New York State DMV law.

Officer Laura Smith added to the arrest tally when she stopped a car on Route 6 in Mahopac at 12:30pm. The driver, Joszef Lamer, 30, of Mahopac, was found to be driving his car with a suspended license and suspended registration as well as lapsed insurance.

Officer Brian Shay stopped a speeding car on Agor Lane in Mahopac. The driver, identified by Carmel Police Chief Michael Johnson as an 18-year-old from Mahopac, was charged with traveling at 62 mph in a 30 mph zone as well as unlawful possession of marijuana, possession of a weapon—since a pair of brass knuckles were reportedly found inside the car, and failing to comply to an officer when police allege the youth allegedly attempted to out-distance the police cruiser.

Officer James Terrazas stopped a car on Route 6 in Carmel and discovered its driver, Elia Hernandez, 52, of White Plains, was operating her vehicle with a suspended registration as well as a suspended driver’s license. Hernandez was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation, being an unlicensed driver, and for operating a vehicle with a suspended registration that was uninsured.

Officer Jeffrey Eagan stopped a car on Myrtle Avenue in Mahopac Falls that was being operated with a broken headlight. A computer check determined the driver, Joseph Schiavone, 24, of Mahopac, was operating his car with a suspended license as well as a revoked registration. Schiavone was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation along with operating a vehicle with a revoked registration.

Each of those charged was released without bail pending hearings later this month in local magistrate courts.
