Brewster Hopes For More Next Year
BREWSTER—Despite a 2-4 record in dual meets, the Brewster High boys swim team is optimistic that the program is heading in the right direction.

The Bears began the season 0-3 before winning two of three to close out the season as they began to develop some much-needed depth.
“We are building a better team,” Bears coach Clare Carr said. “Overall they all improved tremendously, and we’re building a better team. The word’s getting out, our numbers are growing.”
Senior John Carr and sophomore Charlie Carr represented the Bears at the state championships and were both named All-Section and All-League. Sophomore Niki Tchobanov was also named All-League.
“We’re gonna miss John,” Carr said. “He holds a lot of the school records. It will be a tough loss for the team because he was undefeated all season in the dual meets.”
Tchobanov and junior Mike Quinn will both look to improve on this year’s results as they each came within seconds of qualifying for the states.
“Mike Quinn is a very promising sprinter, he should be even faster next year,” Carr said. “He did very well in the 50 free, and added some depth to the relay.”
Another Bear who came up just short of states was freshman diver Mark Stein.
“We did have a number of swimmers that were new to the team that did really well,” Carr said. “Mark placed top 15 at sectionals … the fact that he’s a freshman and made it all the way to sectionals is pretty good.”
The Bears will lose eight swimmers to graduation at the end of the year. Despite the losses the Bears are hoping to qualify several swimmers for the states while continuing to improve their depth heading into next season.
“The good news is we’ll have Niki (Tchobanov), Charlie (Carr) and Mike (Quinn) coming back,” Carr said. “We’re looking forward to a good season.”
