Evelyn L. Durkin

Evelyn L. Durkin of Danbury, a loving mother who always put her children first, died March 18, 2010, in Danbury with her family at her side. She was 73.

Mrs. Durkin was born October 30, 1936, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, daughter of the late Ralph and Lois (Boyd) Latham. She graduated from Pomona (CA) High School in in 1955.

Mrs. Durkin lived in Danbury for the past 25 years, moving there from Brewster, NY where she lived most her life. She was a member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster and had worked as a waitress for the Wind Mill Diner in New Milford, retiring in 1999 after waitressing for 30 years.

Mrs. Durkin is survived by James Durkin of Dover Plains, her sons Corrie Durkin of Fishkill, and James Durkin Jr. of Danbury; two daughters, Sheri Durkin of Patterson and Judy McElroy of Pawling; two sisters, Ida Westfall of Byhalia, CA and Sheila Gardenhire of Merced, CA; five grandchildren, Corrie and Thomas Durkin, Johnny Klingner, Tralee McElroy and Riley Durkin. She was predeceased by her grandson, Ryan McElroy.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on March 22 at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, Brewster. Interment followed at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Evelyn’s memory may be made to the Ryan McElroy Children’s Cancer Foundation, 198 Route 22, Pawling, NY 12564.
