Green Chimneys Wins State Dental Foundation Recognition
Green Chimneys cares about the emotional health of its students as well as their physical condition—including their teeth.
That caring and concern prompted the New York State Dental Foundation to visit the school’s campus last week and present the institution and its dentist, Dr. Roderick MacCrae, with the “Give Kids a Smile” award. Full Story

Youth Summit teaches respect
The issue of respect was the underlying theme of the day-long seminar held at Arms Acres in Carmel last week, hosted by the Putnam County Communities that Care Coalition.
Some 75 young people from the Brewster, Carmel, Mahopac, and Haldane school systems met in groups to discuss anti-social behavior, teen values, morals, drug use, and the difference between right and wrong. Full Story
CPD boater safety course
The Carmel Police Department will be hosting a state-sanctioned boater safety course on Saturday at Carmel Town Hall.
Sgt. Robert Behan explained the course was being given in partnership with the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and was designed as a comprehensive boating course by teaching the fundamentals of safe boating operation. Full Story

In the summer of 2006, I was feeling weak, ill, and coughing a lot. The doctor said I had fluid in my lungs and an abnormal EKG. I never followed up with the doctor. I was a smoker. It didn’t occur to me that my heart was the cause of the problems. Then later that fall, I had pneumonia. Full Story
