Mahopac Softball Opens with Win
MAHOPAC—The John F. Kennedy Catholic High softball team may have been suffering from opening-day jitters, and Mahopac took advantage by jumping all over the Gaels and earning a 12-4 win at the Mahopac Falls field on Monday.

In the top of the first inning Kennedy got three runs off of a double by Katie Gannon. But it was all downhill for the Gaels after that. They committed 10 errors and gave up seven unearned runs, which put them in a hole they were never able to climb out.
Mahopac got four runs in the bottom of the first to quickly take the lead back, and then added another seven in the third inning—sparked by six JFK miscues.
Katie Gannon went 3-for-4 at the plate with a three RBI double and a stolen base for Kennedy.
Mahopac’s Caitlin Schweigler went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double, Jackie Sanita also had two RBI, and Stephanie Leone had an RBI single. Carley Knapp went 2-for-3 with a double and Nicole Angelo added two singles.

Colleen Nestler took the loss, going five innings, and gave up five earned runs. Patrice Grande also threw an inning for JFK.
Kaileen Creamer threw seven innings for the Indians, allowing only one earned run and getting 11 strikeouts on the way to her first win of the season. She also got an RBI single at the plate.
“Hopefully it was just nerves,” said JFK coach Pat Hogan. “I just want them to settle down and get ready for our next game.”
The Gaels face Lakeland in a nonleague game at home at 4:30pm tomorrow (Friday).
