Brewster Girls Find Early Going Rough
Bears hit hard by graduation, but team expects to improve quickly
BREWSTER—Lindsay Biondi scored seven goals and Megan Yarusso added two goals and two assists, but it wasn’t enough, as the Brewster High girls lacrosse team fell to Fox Lane by a 17- 10 count Saturday in a game played in Bedford.
The Bears also dropped a 16-9 decision to Yorktown last Thursday, and fell to John Jay, 18-9, in the season opener, and stood at 0-3. Full Story

Anderson wins for third time – and has five RBI
CARMEL—Sooner or later, the Carmel High baseball team is going to have to throw someone other than Ian Anderson out there, but for now Anderson has been The Man on the mound for the Rams – winning all three of Carmel’s games so far this season, the last being a 10-4 decision over Greeley last Thursday in Chappaqua. PUTNAM VALLEY—The Putnam Valley high softball team (1-2) has been having some trouble hitting the ball early in the season. The Tigers got their first win of the season against Lakeland on Thursday in a close but crazy game where they had only two hits but managed to score two runs to win 2-0. Full Story

MAHOPAC—After dropping their first two games of the season, the Mahopac High boys lacrosse team picked up two non-league wins. The Indians (2-2) opened their week with a 13-10 win over Horace Greeley, and followed that up with an 11-9 come-from-behind win against Somers. Full Story

SOMERS—After an ugly loss to Mahopac, the John F. Kennedy Catholic high softball team (1-2) squandered its only chance to bounce back before the league schedule started by losing to Lakeland at home on Friday. When Monday rolled around, so did the league opener against Pawling, and with little to no momentum the Gaels where still able to get a 12-9 win. Full Story
Brewster Bears Fall to Ossining, 8-3, Tie Hen Hud
BREWSTER—Adriel Barnes and Mike Blank both homered, but the Bears still fell short, as the Brewster High baseball team dropped an 8-3 decision to Ossining in a non-league game played last Friday at Ossining.
Brewster also settled for a 5-5 tie against Hendrick Hudson in a game played the prior Wednesday, and that had to be called due to darkness after 10 innings. Full Story

CARMEL—In two games Carmel High senior Monica Schult has pitched 15 innings and allowed just four runs, but unfortunately for her and the rest of the Rams softball team, they lost both times. The Rams (0-2) followed Monday's 1-0 loss at Haldane with a 3-2 extra-innings loss at Beacon. Full Story
Tigers Roll to 8-3 Victory over Bronxville in Season Opener
PUTNAM VALLEY—Ryan Fitzgerald had a hat-trick, and freshman Johnny van de Veerdonk dropped in a pair of goals, to lead the Putnam Valley boys lacrosse team to an 8-3 victory over Bronxville in a game played Saturday at Bronxville.
The game was tied at 2-2 at halftime, but the Tigers came out and scored three unanswered goals in the third, and won the fourth, 3-1. Full Story
Hornets Ride Eight-Run Second to Victory over Gaels
SOMERS—The Lakeland High baseball team appears to be loaded this spring, and Kennedy Catholic found out first hand last week just how strong the Hornets are in a 15-7 loss last Friday at Kennedy. Full Story
Mahopac Softball Picks Up Win, Loss
The Mahopac High softball team captured its second win of the season by defeating Ossining 16-2 on Friday, which followed a 4-2 loss to Roy C. Ketcham at home last Wednesday.
Both were non-league games for the Indians. Mahopac's record now stands at 2-1 overall. Full Story
Putnam Valley Boys and Girls Track Teams Lose to Hen Hud
The Putnam Valley girls and boys track teams were both defeated by Hendrick Hudson on the road to open their season. The boys lost by a score of 112-38 while the girls were defeated 119-27.
Despite the scores, coach P.J. Keating was pleased with how many of his athletes performed in the first meet of the season. Full Story
Putnam Valley Girls Beat Arlington, 13-11
PUTNAM VALLEY—The Putnam Valley high girls lacrosse team managed to get a 5-4 lead at halftime despite a slow start Monday, and in the second half picked it up and squeaked by Arlington to earn a 13-11 win in front of the home crowd. “I think the game went well,” said coach Katie Odell. “We played better the last 15 minutes. It was the DEP’s “Amy Flavin Day” celebrated with the Oasis Sportsman Club boys (cleaning up litter from the Courthouse in the Hamlet, out to Belden Road and the West Branch causeway.) Wayne Ryder told me, at an event at Carmel High on Sunday, that he too pitched in early picking up two bags of local litter too! Full Story
Brewster Track Finds Early Success
BREWSTER—Despite the season still being young, the Brewster High track team is wasting no time in picking up top finishes. The Bears competed in two events this past week and took home seven top-three finishes. Full Story
’Pac Gets Off to Good Start with Win
The Mahopac High track team opened its season on a good note, defeating Yorktown 80-79 last Thursday on the road.
Coach Vin Collins was happy with how his team performed in the opener.
"It was a good start," Collins said. "We were competitive in all of the events. It was a good starting point." Full Story
