Carmel school board slashes 40 positions, proposes 4.3 percent tax levy increase
Forty teaching positions and support staff have been eliminated from the 2010- 2011 Carmel School District budget.
The Board of Education adopted the $105,991,161 fiscal spending plan last week that represents a 1.79 percent budget to-budget increase with an estimated tax levy hike of 4.3 percent. Full Story

Joseph McCluskey didn’t know what happened that made him lose control of his car and drive up a stone wall in Carmel.
The 55-year-old Putnam Valley motorist escaped serious injury Sunday in the 12:30pm crash on Vink Drive directly across the street from Carmel FD headquarters.

Trial of sheriff’s deputy begins
District Attorney Adam Levy has called the 28-count indictment of veteran Sheriff’s Deputy Barbara Dunn, a “sad day” for law enforcement.
Dunn, 41, a 13-year career member of the Putnam Sheriff’s Department, was indicted last year on charges of grand larceny, perjury, and official misconduct. Full Story
