Local Artists Contribute to ‘Art for the Cure’ Benefit

Teapot painting by Cold Spring’s Cathy Lusardi-Sgro Teapot painting by Cold Spring’s Cathy Lusardi-Sgro “Art for the Cure”, a benefit auction for the Children’s Cancer Fund sponsored by the Kent Art Association, will e take place on Sunday, May 16, from 1:30-5pm at the Ridgefield Community Center, 316 Main Street, Ridgefield, CT. The auction includes 140 original pieces of art provided by over 55 artists including three Putnam County artists; Gretchen Abene from Patterson, Kathleen Hoekstra from Putnam Valley, and Cold Spring native, Cathy Lusardi-Sgro.

The Children’s Cancer Fund (CCF) is a nonprofit organization, established in 1993 by a small group of doctors, nurses and parent volunteers. The founders’ hope was to establish a research lab and contribute to the field of research in childhood malignancies. Now, more than 17 years later, although still comprised mostly of volunteers, the fund supports a nationally recognized research laboratory at New York Medical College in Valhalla. Research done at the laboratory has not only made significant contributions to the field of pediatric oncology but has specifically altered the way children with leukemia are treated throughout the country, increasing the rate of cure for patients.

Admission to the Art Auction is free and live bidding will begin at 2:30. The Children’s Cancer Fund helps children who are facing a fight no child should have to face. The continued success of the Fund depends on the success of fundraising events such as this Art Auction.
