John A. (Jack) Schratz died May 19, 2010, at his home in Tucson, AZ. He was 85. Jack was born October 12, 1924, in Jamaica, Queens and moved to Mahopac, NY in the 1940s. He served in China during WWII in the Army Air Corp providing ground support for the “Flying Tigers”. After the war he worked in Peekskill as a tool and die maker and became part owner in the Peekskill Die Company with his partner James DeSocio. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Mahopac and served them at the Lake Secor Community Center where Mass was held for many years. He is survived by his wife Janet of Tucson, AZ; six children, Mary Schratz and husband Bernard Rafacz of Carlsbad, CA; John of Barnegat, NJ, Elizabeth Zingaro (Guy) of Mahopac Falls; Jeanne Godridge (Paul) of Cortlandt Manor; Michael of Hyde Park, and Kelly Buxton (Kenneth) of Sitka, AK; step-children, Timothy Bird (Deborah) of Middlebury, VT, and Michael Bird (Barbara) of Katonah; 15 grandchildren, Michael, Amy, and John Schratz; Katie and Brett Zingaro; Kyle and Ian Godridge; Jacob, Connor, and Tabor Buxton; Erin and Cali Bird of Boston, MA; and Sophie, Zachary, and Samuel Bird of Katonah. He is also survived by his sister Florence Graham of Salem Hills Health Care Center and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Florence Schratz and his sister Charlotte Towart. Services are pending. Arrangements by Bring’s Memorial Chapel, Tucson, AZ, (520)623-4718.
