ERIC GROSS Christine McNeill prepares a fresh muffin at her Country Kitchen in Brewster that is celebrating its first anniversary this week. ERIC GROSS Christine McNeill can’t believe it!

A year has passed since she opened her Country Kitchen at 564 North Main Street in Brewster next door to Kobacker’s Market.

The restaurant that features both on- and off-premises catering, with clambakes Christine’s specialty, offers a wide range of menu selections for breakfast lunch and early dinner.

McNeill’s success over the past year relates to her business philosophy: “You are my friend in my house. What would you like to eat?”

Christine praised Brewster officials for their assistance when she decided to open her business within village boundaries: “I could have moved to Route 22, but I wanted to give village residents an opportunity to enjoy fine dining close to home. I’m thrilled that I made the right decision.”

People dining at her restaurant enjoy the experience. Last Thursday during this reporter’s visit a woman came in for a late breakfast: “The food is really exceptional,” she said.

A gentleman who was enjoying a muffin and coffee agreed: “I feel like I’m at home whenever I visit. Customers are never rushed and they are always treated with respect. Besides the food is great!”

Christine loves to serve breakfast all day long from waffles to French toast, pancakes served with vanilla butter and syrup, three-egg omelets, homemade corned beef hash, and even pigs in blankets—breakfast sausage wrapped by a pancake.

A deli case that’s not really a deli case greets customers as well with such favorites as My Mother’s Meatloaf, My Sister’s North Carolina Pulled Pork, homemade mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, classic chili, freshly prepared salads, and burgers galore. Christine called her bill of fare “simple and understandable, containing a little kick to step it up a notch.”

Country Kitchen is open Monday through Friday from 7am to 7pm, and on Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 3pm. Special orders can be made by calling the eatery at 279-TOGO (8646).
