Joseph N. Luongo, age 81 of Danbury, previously of Mount Vernon, NY, died at Danbury Hospital on Thursday June 17, 2010. He is survived by his long time companion, Lois Williams.
Joseph was born August 15, 1928 in Bayonne, NJ,. son of the late Michael and Donata “Demie” (Americo) Luongo. He was a graduate of Edison High School, Mount Vernon, where he was a member of the football team and was selected for the All County Football Team. He was a member of Edison High School Alumni Assn.
Joseph was a master plumber foreman and member of Union Local #86 of Mount Vernon, up until his retirement. He enjoyed painting and photography, music, dancing, and travel. He was a devoted father and grandfather and always enjoyed dining surrounded by his family and friends.
He is survived by his children Michelle Luongo of New Fairfield, previously of Somers; Louis Luongo and his wife, Sheryl of Putnam Valley; Gina O’Connell and her husband, John of New Fairfield; and Leonard Williams and his wife, Robin, of Kent Cliffs; his former wife, Suzanne Antonacci; his loving grandchildren, Mark, Keri, Amanda, LouAnna, Nicholas, and Kimber; his sister, Theresa “Terri” Coyle and her husband, Joseph, of Wyckoff, NJ; his sister-in-law, Dorothy Luongo of Mount Vernon; his close friend and cousin, Patsy Luongo; and many nieces and nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by his brother, Leonard Luongo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Edward the Confessor Church Monday morning at 11am. Interment will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, New Rochelle. Friends will be received at the Green Funeral Home 57 Main St., Danbury, on Saturday from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm.
