Kent White Sox (12U) Continues to Excel
KENT—The Kent White Sox 12 and under baseball team started the summer off right by winning four of its first five games. This week they beat Bedford Hills, 10-8 and Lewisboro, 7-0 to keep their consistent play going. They have been playing well in every aspect of the game so far, their coach is confident that they can keep this going and make a run this summer.
“We have had a good start,” said coach Allen Spiridigliozzi. “Best start we have had in a while actually. We have just been playing good ball, it starts with good defense. We have talent on this team, so hopefully we can carry this on.”
On Friday the White Sox beat Bedford Hills at Ryan’s Field in a game that was not really as close as the 10-8 score indicates.
“It was 2-2 after the first inning,” said Spiridigliozzi. “In the next two innings we put up six runs to take an 8-3 lead. It seemed like we had it under control but we had some errors and gave them some runs, but Sam Ferranto hit a homerun in the sixth which helped us get the momentum back.”
Ferranto played a great game, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, a homerun and four RBI. Brian De- Napoli went 3-for-3 with an RBI, Brett Delrymple went 2-for-2 with two RBI, Kevin Daly went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Brian Sposato also added an RBI in the win.
Sposato also pitched had his pitching debut for the Sox on Friday. He threw the first three innings and gathered up three strikeouts while giving up three runs to earn the win. John Maiolini went the next three innings, he tallied five strikeouts and surrendered five runs before Shane O’Neill came in for the final inning to close the game out.
On Sunday Kent shut out Lewisboro, 7-0. It was just one of those games where everything was working for them. A solo homerun in the second inning got them started but the other six runs came in the last two innings, it was more than enough run support due to the dominating pitching performance they got from Shane O’Neill. He earned the win after pitching six shut out innings, he also struck out nine batters and only gave up two hits. Tyler Spiridigliozzi came in to finish off the last inning.
“It was a good win,” said Spiridigliozzi. “We got great defense and hit well too, add that to good pitching and it usually equals a win. We were just clicking on all cylinders, but it started with Shane’s pitching. He kept them in check which gave us time to get our bats going.”
John Maiolini went 2-for-3 with a solo homerun and three RBI, Kevin Daly also had two hits including a two RBI double. DeNapoli went 2-for-2 with a double, Spiridigliozzi went 2-for-4 with a double and Shane O’Neill added an RBI.
“I’m happy with the way we are playing,” said Spiridigliozzi. “But this week coming up we have some tough games that will show us what we’re made of.”
On Tuesday the Sox were scheduled to play Patterson and on Wednesday they were scheduled to face Carmel. This upcoming weekend they play Carmel again at Ryan’s field at 6 pm and they head to Bedford Hills on Sunday for a game at 6 pm.
