Karl Rohde Appointed as Putnam Historian
The man affectionately referred to as “Mr. Veteran” in Putnam County has been appointed as the county’s new historian.
Karl Rohde, a past Putnam County VFW commander and former Commander of the New York State Veterans of Foreign Wars, was unanimously confirmed by the Putnam Legislature last week following his appointment by County Executive Robert Bondi. Full Story
Pit Bull Who Attacked Shih Tzu Put to Rest
On Monday the Mahopac pit bull, Milo, who seriously injured an 11-pound Shih Tzu, leading to its death, was put to rest.
The demise of Duke the Shih Tzu was described as a “horror show” by Jennifer Marino, the mother of three whose children watched as their Shih Tzu, Duke, was attacked by Milo. Full Story

Support Connection, Inc., a not-for profit organization that provides free, confidential support services for people affected by breast and ovarian cancer, offers a wide range of free support groups women with breast and ovarian cancer. Residents of Brewster, Lake Peekskill, and New Jersey are due to answer charges in Carmel Town Court this month after being taken into custody by Carmel Police for failing to appear in court on previous charges. Full Story
Water Restrictions Imposed
The lack of rainfall, combined with tropic-like heat conditions, has caused the Town of Carmel to implement water restrictions. Supervisor Kenneth Schmitt said the restrictions take place immediately and will remain in effect until weather patterns change. Full Story
