Man Accused Of Threatening Deputies At Brewster Motel
A Carmel man is facing a variety of charges in two counties following his arrest by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department.
After receiving an arrest warrant issued by the Poughkeepsie City Court for Kenneth McGuigan, 47, of Carmel, last week, Deputies Thomas Lee, Edward Kennedy, and Sgt. Lee Stabe learned that McGuigan was staying at the Henry Van Motel on Sodom Road in Brewster.
Police went to the motel at 3:30am in an attempt to locate the man.
Sheriff Don Smith said when the motel’s manager advised the officers which room McGuigan was staying in, police went to the unit and advised McGuigan that he was under arrest.
Cops alleged that McGuigan became violent and reportedly used a knife and hammer to threaten the officers. Mc- Guigan was physically subdued and was charged with felony counts of menacing a police officer along with criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.
McGuigan was arraigned on the charges and was remanded to the Putnam Correctional Facility on bail. He also faces charges in Dutchess County. District Attorney Adam Levy said the menacing charge was a Class D felony carrying a maximum seven-year state prison term if found guilty.
