Over Taxed
‘Cut government waste,’ say a majority of Putnam taxpayers surveyed
According to a recent survey, the vast majority of likely voters in Putnam County believe that taxes are too high and that government should cut waste. Additionally, a plurality of those surveyed in the towns of Carmel, Kent, Philipstown, and Southeast rank “taxes too high” as the most important issue facing Putnam today.
The survey was conducted earlier this month by pollster Kieran Mahoney for the Courier and its sister newspaper, the Putnam County News & Recorder.
A majority— 61.7 percent—were aware that Putnam is one of America’s most highly taxed counties. But 28 percent of those polled thought this was not true, while 10 percent did not know or refused to answer.
