Putnam Family and Community Services is Tops in New York

Putnam Family and Community Services has reached a new plateau in its proud 13 year history by being named as New York State’s most progressive mental health service provider by the NYS Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services.

Word came last Friday that the nonfor profit based in both Carmel and Cold Spring, was the recipient of the 2010 Marty Smith Memorial Award that is presented annually to a “uniquely inspired and dedicated provider which has demonstrated exemplary contributions to the advancement of best practices in mental health services.”

Putnam Family and Community Services Executive Director Edythe Schwartz explained since 1997, her agency has offered “person-centered and recovery-based services by treating every individual with the belief that difficulties can be overcome while personal goals achieved.”

Schwartz called Putnam Family and Community Services a “special place where everyone can begin to recover and follow their dreams. The award means so much especially during such difficult economic times as we may be struggling with funding cuts but our services continue to be outstanding.”

Tom Gill, president of the Putnam Family and Community Services Board of Directors, also expressed great pride: “The award is a fitting acknowledgement of our innovative and dedicated staff. It also demonstrates that our recovery based mission puts us in a leadership position in the world of mental health services.”

The organization will be formally presented with the recognition at the state association’s annual conference in September.
