Robert W. Herdman

Robert W. Herdman of Brewster, New York died Tuesday July 27, 2010 in Carmel, NY at the age of 78.
Mr. Herdman was born in Danbury on June 26, 1932, son of the late Robert and Ruth (Adams) Herdman. He was an outstanding athlete who played football and baseball with Brewster High School and set records that have not been broken to this day.
After graduating from Brewster High School he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served from 1952 to 1955. He served with Howe Company, 7th Marine Regiment, in Korea. On May 4, 1963, he married Patricia Keane in St. Joseph’s Church in Danbury. He was a truck driver for Durkin Fuel Oil in Brewster for 38 years before retiring in 1992. He was a little league umpire for many years in Brewster and coached girls’ softball teams for the Brewster Schools. Mr. Herdman was an avid Yankees fan and rarely missed a game. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
Mr. Herdman is survived by his wife Patricia; two daughters, Michele Zelin of Florida and Alicia Herdman of New York; and a sister, Catherine Farrell of South Carolina.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday July 31, at 10am at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster, NY 10509. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Danbury, CT. Calling hours are Friday, July 30 from 3 to7pm.
