Illegal Alien Arrested in Brewster
A man reportedly in the U.S. illegally from his native Guatemala is facing felony charges of burglary and grand larceny following his arrest by Brewster State Police.
Troopers charged Victor Hugo Ramirez, 41, last week after station commander Sgt. Joseph Malorgio reported an investigation into a residential burglary in downtown Brewster. Full Story

Board Members Caught Up in Dog Fight
It was all bark and no bite for the Djeljevic family of 34 Avery Road in Carmel at the Carmel Zoning Board meeting on July 22; pun fully intended. Chairman Mark Fraser and zoning board members RoseMarie Fabiano, Roger Garcia, James Ferrick, and John Lupinacci, and town attorney Gregory Folchetti seemed perplexed and eventually fed up with contingencies surrounding the case. Woman Vict imized at Carmel Drug Store
For the second week in succession, a woman has been victimized in the Carmel-Mahopac area by leaving her handbag unattended.
Carmel Police reported the most recent incident taking place at a local drug store when the victim left her handbag unattended in a shopping cart while she browsed through the aisles. Full Story
Pepsi’s Annual ‘Gives Back Day’ Improves Walking Trail
Because of the valued partnerships between Volunteer-Center.org, Pepsi Beverage Company, and Keep Putnam Beautiful, improvements have been made to the Lake Gleneida Walking Trail.

Chamber to Get New Office
‘Economic opportunity center’ will house only non-profits
U.S. Senator Charles Schumer has helped funnel $400,000 in taxpayer money for the creation of an “economic opportunity center” in Mahopac. Despite its name, the center will not house job-creating for-profit businesses. Instead, it will serve as a new office for the Mahopac-Carmel Chamber of Commerce, as well as local nonprofits. Mahopac Teen Charged With Grand Larceny
A 17-year-old Mahopac youth accused of stealing a debit card from a neighbor and making several purchases with it from area merchants is facing five counts of grand larceny.
Carmel Police arrested Dylan Deltoro last week. He was arraigned in Carmel Town Court before Judge Joseph Spofford and remanded to the Putnam Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 bail. Full Story

Water Advisories Issued Across the County
Lack of rain and hot weather has resulted in water advisories being issued by several municipalities throughout the region.
The Town of Carmel issued a mandatory water advisory earlier this month banning the watering of lawns and washing of cars. Full Story
Cops Say it Must be the Weather
Kent Police arrested Antonio Gonzalez, 46, of Kent, on charges of criminal mischief for reportedly swinging a piece of steel rebar that struck another local resident’s vehicle after the pair had been involved in an argument in Lake Carmel.
Gonzalez was arraigned in Kent Town Court and was released without bail pending a July 29 hearing. Full Story
