Anton Sparozic, age 85, died on July 13, 2010 with his family at his side in Carmel, NY. He was born February 27, 1925, in Omisalj, Croatia to the late Mare and Josip Sparozic. He was one of six children. In the 1940s, he served his country fighting for his freedom and the freedom of others. In March 1953, he was united in marriage to his wife, Rose.

In 1961, he came to the United States with his wife and two children and resided in Queens for more than 38 years. For the remaining years of his life, he and his wife came to live in Carmel to be near their children and grandchildren. He was a hard working, familyoriented man, a man who valued his family above everything else.

Anton enjoyed the outdoors. His interests included soccer, hunting, and fishing. His passion was walking through fields hunting pheasant with his German shorthaired pointers, with his son and his youngest daughter at his side. He also enjoyed tinkering in his garden, pruning his fig and persimmon trees.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, son, two daughters, eight grandchildren, and two sisters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers.

A memorial scholarship fund in being established in his name for the Carmel High School Seniors. Anyone interested in making a contribution, feel free to contact Annette Lazzaro at 845-661-6715.

We would like to thank Dr. Matthew Mannini, Dr. Michael Cappicotta, and all of the doctors, nurses, and staff at Putnam Hospital and their affiliates for their compassion and support.
