Kent 10U Squad Suffers First Losses of Season
KENT—The 10 and under Kent White Sox squad lost their only two games this past week, one game they were mercy ruled in five innings but the other was a much closer two run loss. On Saturday Kent lost to Putnam Valley, 15-5 and on Thursday they fell to Patterson, 10-8, in a game that seemed out of reach up until the final two innings.

Saturday was a bad outing for the Sox, they lost 15-5 in five innings to Putnam Valley at Ryan’s field in a game that was never really close.
George Love was handed the loss for Kent, he went three innings and gave up nine runs, five walks and earned two strike outs and Vince Scarduzio threw the other two innings and gave up six runs.
Shane Dalrymple went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Love, Tom Fava, Nick Heis and Kenny Benitez each added an RBI as well.
Thursday the Sox lost to local nemesis Patterson, 10-8. Kent was down for most of the game, they trailed 10-2 going into the fifth inning but got six runs off six straight hits to make the score 10-8. In the sixth inning they threatened to tie when they had men on first and second base with only one out but they couldn’t get the runs in to extend the game.
Scarduzio got the loss for Kent, he went three innings, gave up nine runs and struck out four batters. Dylan Magglio pitched in relief and gave up one run in three innings of work, he also piled up four strike outs.
Scarduzio went 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple and three RBI, Mike Calcagno went 2-for-2 with a RBI, Dalrymple had two hits and a RBI and Nick Carosi, Magglio and Fava each added RBI’s.
“It was an exciting game,” said coach Frank Benitez. “The kids were hanging their heads at first when we were down 10-2, but that fifth inning got us right back into the game. We made it interesting in the sixth with men on first and second but we couldn’t get them in. It’s a tough loss because we made some errors behind Vince and fell behind early, but the kids played hard and came back to make a game out of it.”
On Thursday Kent will travel to Croton for a 6 pm game and on Saturday they face Yonkers at 9 am at Ryan’s field for their final game of the season.
The team will also be hosting a clam bake fundraiser to raise money for their future Cooperstown trip. The event will be held at Mr. Gug’s bar on route 52 on August 21st, it starts at 1pm. There will be tons of food, drinks, music, games, prizes and much more. Please contact Frank Benitez at (917) 744-0969 or Anthony Scarduzio at (845) 531-1790 for more info on the event, all are welcome.
