A dozen members of the Carmel Cubs are counting the days and a trip to Cooperstown is almost a year away.
Members of the Carmel Sports Association 2011 Cooperstown team hope to raise $20,000 this year to help pay for the week-long journey to the home of the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Carmel Cubs’ manager Rich Roberto described the experience as “positively awesome.” Team members include 12-year-olds include Alex Longo, John Ruggerio, Steven Flamio, Ian Hubertis, Rob Pirrelli, Matt Dougherty, James Roberto, Nick Stefanak, Alex Pena, Liam Conroy, Alphonse Sicigiano, and Jaylin Catalano.
Fundraising for the event kicks off Sunday during a breakfast at Applebee’s in Southeast. Guests are encouraged to attend from 8am to 10am and enjoy breakfast courtesy of the popular restaurant off Route 312 and Independence Way while donating to the team. Several other fundraisers are also being planned, including a gala at the Ceola Manor in Jefferson Valley in March. Donors can send checks to the Carmel Sports Association and mail to Rich Roberto, 8 Barry Goldwater Drive, Carmel, NY 10512.
