BREAKING: Leibell, Ball Win in Primaries
Hayworth Has Huge Lead, Katz Narrowly Ahead
Results are still arriving, but as of 12:30am on Wednesday, September 15, the Courier can report the following results from Tuesday's Republican primary election:
19th Congressional District Race
Nan Hayworth has strong lead over Neil Di Carlo. In Putnam County, Hayworth garnered 63 percent of the vote to Di Carlo's 36. The winner will face Democratic Rep. John Hall in November.
Putnam County Executive Race
Vincent Leibell defeats Mary Ellen Odell 51.35% to 48.53%, a margin of 176 votes. There is no Democratic challenger for the general election.
40th State Senate Race
Greg Ball defeats Mary Beth Murphy. Ball garnered 63 percent of the vote in Putnam County, which comprises part of the 40th district. Ball will face Democrat Mike Kaplowitz in November.
99th Assembly Race
Steve Katz leads James Borkowski. But Borkowski has a narrow lead in the Putnam County portion of the district. The winner will face Democrat Brendan Tully in November.
In the gubernatorial primary, Rick Lazio was leading in Putnam County, but Carl Paladino seems to have won the battle statewide. In the Democratic senatorial primary, Kirsten Gillibrand easily won.
