Police Nab Suspended Drivers
Carmel Police Officer Brian Shay took a double take when observing a vehicle travelling along Miller Road in Mahopac.
The auto bore a gold colored European license plate while it contained New York State registration and inspection stickers affixed to the windshield.
The officer stopped the car last week and conducted a computer check with the New York State DMV database, which indicated the driver had been operating his car with two active suspensions and revocations on his license.
William Gerbe, 21, of Mohegan was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation as well as being an unlicensed driver. He posted $100 bail and was released pending a Sept. 28 hearing in Carmel Town Court before Judge Thomas Jacobellis.
A short time later, Officer Jeffrey Eagan was patrolling along Route 6 in Mahopac when he observed a vehicle that failed to stop at a red traffic signal at the intersection with Union Valley Road.
The vehicle was pulled over and its driver, Samantha Lipton, 26, of Mahopac, was charged with passing a red light. A computer check determined that Lipton’s license was also suspended while her car was being driven with an expired inspection. Lipton was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation and for being an unlicensed driver. She was released without bail pending a Sept. 27 hearing before Judge Joseph Spofford in Carmel Town Court.
