Thomas A. Hefele Sr., of Brewster, died Tues. November 23, 2010 at home after a long illness with his family at his side.

Known as “POPS” to his grandchildren, he was 73. Born on Feb. 24, 1937, Mr. Hefele was the son of Kathleen (McEntegart) and the late Joseph Hefele. After graduating from DeWitt Clinton H.S., he served in the US Army from 1955 to 1957. On April 30, 1966 he married Kathleen McNulty of Throggs Neck, NY. They moved to Brewster 39 years ago and became members of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church.

Mr. Hefele was a Police Officer with the NYPD for 22 years until 1982. He then worked at the Somers Post office until retiring in 2000. Besides his wife Kathleen, Thomas is survived by his mother; daughter Kathleen Carroll and her husband Ted of Milton, MA; three sons Thomas and his wife Christina of Danbury, CT, Christopher of Brewster, and Patrick and his fiancée Missy Forbes of Brewster; brothers Joseph of Mineola, NY, James of Mahopac, Edward of Valley Cottage, NY; sisters Margaret and Catherine Hefele of the Bronx; and six beloved grandchildren- Natalie, Marilyn and Violet Carroll and Jacob, Aidan and Logan Hefele.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, November 27, 2010, at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, Brewster. Interment followed at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery, Brewster.
