DOROTHY A. ANDERSON

Dorothy A. Anderson, age 97, a resident of Brewster, since 1968, died Sunday, December 26, 2010 in Ridgefield, CT.

Dorothy was born in Brooklyn on June 24, 1913, to George and Anna (Ramsay) Bischoff. She attended Emanuel High School in Brooklyn.

Dorothy married William G. Anderson Sr. on May 6, 1933 in Brooklyn, where they lived until 1968. Mr. Anderson died in 1968.

Dorothy worked as a clerk for the New York City Housing Authority for 20 years, retiring in 1967.

Through the years, Dorothy was a volunteer for the Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and needlepoint, as well as cooking and baking. Dorothy enjoyed her many visits to Cape Cod.

Family was the center of Dorothy’s life; the love she had for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren was evident by the pride demonstrated through the many stories she shared.

Dorothy is survived by her two sons, William G. Anderson, Jr. and his wife Rayla of New City, and Robert D. Anderson and his wife Donna of Brewster; four grandchildren, Dana and Roger O’Connell, Jill and Rob Jackowitz, Matthew and Katy Anderson, and Jennifer Anderson; five great grandchildren, Kevin, Max, Emily, Sara, and Riley. She was predeceased by a sister, Agnes Bischoff.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 2, at 12 noon at the First United Methodist Church, 81 Main St., Brewster, with interment following at Milltown Rural Cemetery, Brewster. Friends may call at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, on Saturday from 11am to 1pm.
